"Strong" image + right audience = good results.

All text is generally a bad idea, but the perversity of the "no sex, no violence, unspeakable obscenity" juxtaposition at the bottom of the ad redeems the effort and makes it click-enducing.

Eyegrabbing image, but the ad misses a great opportunity to use text field to link to other related DVDs & to what bloggers are saying (lots!) about the Sin City DVDs. (Click here for a hint of what I'm suggesting.)

A very simple ad for a compelling movie. A little information, but not too much.

Eye-catching image, but for our taste, too many words in the image. Would have loved to see this run without all that text around with weird muppet face.

Sexy, timely, funny... she's got it all. This ad got particular traction with bloggers, who loved the humorous tie-in with the then ongoing '04 election. People still talk about this (ad) campaign. (One thought: I'd have moved some of the run-time text out of the image into the text box, letting the core message be bigger.)
